SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO (December 21, 2012) — SUBWAY® will be the Presenting Sponsor and serve as the Official Restaurant for the Puerto Rico Marathon & Half Marathon for years 2013, 2014 & 2015.  The first edition will take place on Sunday, May 5, 2013.  Starting at 5:00 AM on Baldorioty Avenue next to the Jaime Benítez Park – Condado Lagoon.

The Puerto Rico Marathon & Half Marathon, is brought to you by the organizers of the Jeep IRONMAN 70.3 San Juan and consists of two races: a 42.2 Km (26.2 Miles) Marathon and 21.1 Km (13.1 Miles) Half-Marathon.  The FULL distance race has been approved by the Boston Athletic Association (BAA) to serve as a qualifying event for the world-renowned Boston Marathon.  Both races will start simultaneously from the Jaime Benítez Park and go through Old San Juan, passing by Condado, Ocean Park, Isla Verde, Hato Rey, Santurce and the Puerto Rico Convention Center. Finally, the route goes back through Old San Juan up to the finish line at the Third Millennium Park.

“The Puerto Rico Marathon & Half will be the first Boston Marathon Qualifier race to take place in Puerto Rico”, said Arturo Diaz, of BN Sports.  “We are expecting runners from the US and other countries to participate who are aspiring to qualify for the Boston Marathon in year 2014”.

As usual, there will be a team of medical professionals available for participants, as well as water aid stations after the second mile and fruits and drinks at the finish line.  Every participant arriving at the finish line within the four hours for the Half-Marathon and seven hours for the Marathon of the starting time will receive a medal.

Prior to the event, SUBWAY® restaurants will also be offering a special nutritional system for runners training for either of the two races.  On the eve of the event, May 4, the SUBWAY® Kids Race (1, 2 and 3K) will take place at the Third Millennium Park. The event will offer families a chance to come together and enjoy these races, especially for children between 6 and 17 years old.  Further details about the race will become available soon.
